Us Girls is an initiative to engage girls in sport and is similar to the programme we ran a few years ago called Girls Active. As a Partnership we are now linking up with Streetgames to engage more girls in physical activity by providing an US Girls event, setting up after school clubs, and planning and organising some ‘girls only’ community clubs.
We started by launching our US Girls event which allowed girls aged 14+ to try out some new sporting activities and help plan and organise their own after school clubs. The girls got to choose which sports they wanted to do and when their club should take place. These clubs will be ran by a sport specific coach and be based around FUN.FITNESS.FRIENDS. So the girls will get to take part in activities that they enjoy in a fun and friendly environment.
There will also be community clubs that will be ‘girls only’ multisport sessions open to all 14+ girls. These clubs will be ran by the same coaches that are doing the after school clubs and will include activities that the girls would like to take part in. Throughout all of the clubs the girls will help plan and run their club but will also receive a variety of incentives for attending their club for a number of sessions.
