The aim of the Leadership Academy is to give young people with learning disabilities the opportunity to develop as sports leaders through gaining qualifications and experiences of leading school sport and the School Games.
The academy programme will be as follows:
|Day 1||19/10/2015||Spennymoor Leisure Centre||10am-2pm||-Introduction to programme- Leadership training|
|Day 2||20/10/2014||Spennymoor Leisure Centre||10am-2pm||– Delivery of sessions to younger children|
|Day 3||09/6/2015||Spennymoor Leisure Centre||10am-2pm||– Training in Delivering Athletics|
The Learning Disability Leadership Academy will run alongside the mainstream Leadership Academy and the leaders will keep a diary of their leadership and volunteering, have the opportunity to volunteer at the School Games and be invited to attend the Leadership Academy Celebration event at the end of the academic year if they complete 50 hours of volunteering.
The academy is a two year rolling programme.

Eligible pupils will be in Y9/10/11, working at level 2 or below in core subjects and have a statement.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE DAY:
- Clothing for light activity
- Pen and notebook to make notes
- Any medication needed
- The Oaks
- Durham Trinity School and Sports College
- Villa Real
