We have had two awesome days of Kung Fu Panda Martial Arts Festivals at Newton Aycliffe and Spennymoor Leisure Centres. Over 400 Key Stage 1 pupils learning new skills and tricks. Massive thank you to @Newton Aycliffe Chungdokwan Taekwondo for helping deliver some of the sessions. ... See more

Mowden Federation Schools

What a fantastic day we have had today! Alex delivered his first full day in a school, sharing his incredible life story and inspiring the children to be resilient and believe that anything can be overcome.

We were completely overwhelmed by the sharing assembly at the end of the day, showcasing what key messages the children had learnt from Alex and their brilliant poetry.

This is Alex Dewar and he's a very modest but rather special guy. A former warrant officer in the army who was an elite triathlete, he suffered a brain haemorrhage in 2015 and was given a 2% chance of survival. Year 5 children are working with him today and finding out about how sport, fitness and strong mental resilience enabled him to win medals at the 2018 invictus Games. There will be some great things to learn from him.
